What is STEAM?
STEAM is Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts & culture and Mathematics.
The Pathways Learning Academy explains, "This educational philosophy brings the arts and sciences to every part of the classroom, in addition to lessons and daily routines. This integration of academic skills and practical application makes learning meaningful to children's everyday lives and empowers them to consider what they're learning in a more holistic way."

Addressing the nation's "STEM Talent Crisis"
Students in the United States struggle with science comprehension and Kauai students rank among the lowest in the nation. For the County of Kauai to build an economically diverse and sustainable future, we will need a skilled workforce that has strong STEAM foundations and solid 21st century learning skills. A skilled workforce is the foundation for the future and focusing on developing this workforce is critical to ensure a resilient Kauai that is ready to manage and mitigate challenges with climate change, food sustainability, transportation, natural resource management, public health and waste management to name just a few.
At KCSC we believe increased science literacy will build a stronger and more resilient community. Kauai Community Science Center supports sharing of science and technology with the community that is driven and inspired by students and teachers on Kauai.
A more science literate community will also be better prepared to understand and solve issues associated with climate change, food production, development and renewable energy to name a few of the challenges facing Kauai, Hawaii and the rest of the world. Career Academies will transform education on Kauai and produce students better prepared to excel in their chosen careers or educational pursuits beyond high school. KCSC is excited to be a community partner in this educational transformation.
